ICC meet has started in Hong Kong to improve the simple game of Cricket on the MCC Cricket committes few recommendations.Whenever you here the implementation of UDRS all that one hears is BCCI.They say BCCI rules the ICC and everything else, can some one rule an international organisation just on the basis of money and revenue ??
They say BCCI is stopping the implementations of UDRS. Niranjan Shah (BCCI official ) explained to all about the economic feasibility of the system, but the mindset towards BCCI is such now that even a deaf man will recognize a BCCI official speech. Why did this whole thing come up ??? What went so wrong that all countries are running after it ???? Before going to that there are few more rules that I think will improve the game in lot better way than the UDRS.
Cricket has always been a batsmen's game. You can have a certain batsmen come down the pitch and smack the bowler out of the ground but at the same time if the bowlers crosses a line , that's a free-hit for the batsmen, fairness ???? A batsmen can wander around his crease and still play shots , but if the bowler's foot cuts the back lines its again a no-ball ????? Experts say after all the batsmen is looking for runs and is innovative enough to do so, well the bowlers are also humans even they should be given the same freedom.Switch hit ,its already been discussed about how it really favours the batsmen,Everytime we want the bowlers to come up with some thing new within the laws , why cant we ask the same to batsmen??? Umpires Rules says the batsmen cant be given out if the ball touches any equipment used by the fielders (like an Helmet), but they will give runs to team if the ball hits the batsmen helmet and goes for 4 Leg Byes, Why is it a crime being a bowler ?????
UDRS ,as told is to reduce the horror umpiring decisions, we always forget that that can be done by catching out players.Players who know they are out and should walk. When you want every possible chance as a batsmen, you want technology, don't you need to be honest and brave enough to walk when you knick it.You want Umpires to be helped .then why not giving them the power to consult the 3rd Umpire for it whenever they want ??? When a batsmen gets out if he is wrongly given out , why is the 3rd Umpire quiet ??? He can see the fault and help the on-field umpires by telling them what actually happened.Won't this improve the over all Umpiring , but nope we want technology, why all this years cricket lived with technology or Umpires ???? Yes today too we can survive.
What BCCI told that the cant afford $60,000 per day in a match for UDRS,why is that so wrongly taken ???? If you are in the University Exam section you know students copy and cheat so will u set up a 50,000 network set up in all the states to catch those few cheats ??? No u wont , that's not the want. You need to realize that the decisions can be made, those horrors can be avoided with the collaboration of the available 3 umpires. You can think of implementing UDRS when you have full stands filled with people since that will help you recover the money.UDRS is costly when we see 1000 people watching a dead rubber.ICC gave an option and BCCI upheld it, If ICC wants this dearly they can just force it as Boycott Sir rightly said to outvote BCCI. But first better look at the idiotic rules and then lets turn to technology. We have already complexed this game lot more please Lets keep this simple silly.

Good one Niks. Especially the points related to the usage of crease by the batsmen and the bowlers. But these things need change in the basic rules of the game. I don't think these will ever be reviewed. And you really think that the cost is the only reason why BCCI isn't favoring the UDRS? It's supposed to be one of the world's richest sports org.

nice 1 dude.... as we hav discussed...
ReplyDeletebut ne how.. technology is used only...
if UDRS is nt in use.. then too by hawk-eye n all we come to knw abt wrong decisions.....
lets c wht happens...
Nice article Nick :)
ReplyDeleteThere are few problems to me,
If it's umpires call to go for 3rd umpire on LBW decisions, we may see what's happening on run outs. On field umpires will not take any chances & will go for 3rd umpire for every appeal. Waste of time.
In the other hand, richest Cricket board refusing UDRS saying it cost too much while relatively less richer boards agreeing to use it :D
Agree with them Sid , i know money is not the only reason but strikes me is BCCI has more businessmen so they opposing this as very low returns :)
ReplyDeleteHey!!!
ReplyDeleteFirstly Bro I am pro UDRS. Simply coz technology has always helped it’s never been bad.. I know UDRS doesn’t guarantee complete accurate results but it eliminates a lot of pathetic decisions.I hold Sachin Sir’s views that apply DRS with all inputs or dont
1. The 1st test showed how bad umpiring can be & it wasn’t the first time, remember Buckoner in OZ 2007? So we can’t always take Bell’s 2.5m theory and question the UDRS. Cellphones cause tumor, cars coz accident, planes crash but on an overall view technology has only helped us. I don’t’ wanna see Sabina Park repeated in Lords or Perth.
2. Third umpire should be used in auto mode for the the back foot no-balls, or once given out check it was a no-ball things which an umpire can miss and players aren’t aware off…not for whether knicked or no, simple reason as u don’t a fellow umpire telling another how the hell did you give that out? So use third umpire more to help the umpire and that’s it
3. Which in turn will make The UDRS give birth to more moral player’s coz no batsman from 1-11 likes to hear “U knew u were out, U didn’t walk mate”? (Pup is the best example)
4. Coming to Papa of cricket these days BCCI (not a fan). What amazes me is this that there aren’t many fans watching the Number1 test team play home. Look at test matches in Oz or England always has a crowd in. Reason? BCCI needs to identify test venues where cricket doesn’t watch empty stands (WI is depressing). & trust me if DRS is applied look at the gizmos our IIT boys will make to make it awesome.
5. Yes cricket has always been a batsman’s game but ask any “Cricket” Fan (people like us) they will prefer a snorter from a pacer or a google from a spinner which puzzles the batsman. Soch yaar minimum batsman needs 12balls to score a 50 (Yuvi) whereas a bowler needs one ball less to dismiss an entire team….
Good post nik.....
ReplyDeletenic 1 niks....
ReplyDeleteAs said by niks.. Cricket is more of a batsman's game because they have several advantages over a bowler. UDRS, thus, gives additional privileges to bowlers to challenge faulty decisions thereby improving umpire's decision every single event, every single match, every single day...
ReplyDeleteThrough d decades Cricket has been a batsman game, which everyone must AGREE. And people loved it and followed the game in same manner.
ReplyDeleteCricket has been considered as a Gentleman's game nd what's the need for Technology in the game.
Its would be better if the batsmen are honest from their toes to the helmet.
And when the expected crowd doesn't turn out, it would be resulting in bitter loss if you spend that huge amount on Technology.
When the technology is used, u make the it to the full extent(Snickometer nd Hot spot) nd using Semi-Technology(DRS) is totally damm shit thing to do so.
My doubt to Sapthagiri Reddy Where u a BCCI official in ur last birth :P :P
ReplyDeleteNice one! Good point! but still i am an anti-BCCI lol
